Mars Rover Curiosity Finds Martian 'Flower' and Snake-Like Rock
New photos of Mars from NASA's Curiosity rover have sparked a buzz of discussion over an odd formation that some have dubbed a "flower" embedded in a Martian rock. The rover has also found a snake-like rock formation winding across the Red Planet's surface.
From Mars Curiosity rover to SpaceX: Scientific feats in 2012 became 'one for the history books'
NASA and other nations have launched spacecraft into Earth orbit for decades. Rovers have already explored Mars. And scientists have known since the 1960s about the possible existence of a nearly undetectable particle that fills the gaps in understanding physics and the universe. Timeline: Scientific events from 2012
How We Got to Mars
This short video demonstrates how American Ingenuity landed us on MARS. Spirit, MER-A (Mars Exploration Rover -- A), is a robotic rover on Mars, active from 2004 to 2010. It was one of two rovers of NASA's ongoing Mars Exploration Rover Mission. It landed successfully on Mars at 04:35 Ground UTC on January 4, 2004. This clip is taken from the IMAX movie "Roving Mars" from 2006 . This is an edited short version. Special thanks to Aheli. | Views: 0 ![]() 0 ratings

Road trip on tap for NASA's Mars rover in new year
The Mars rover Curiosity has fallen into a rhythm: Drive, snap pictures, zap at boulders, scoop up dirt. Repeat. Topping its to-do list in the new year: Set off toward a Martian mountain -- a trek that will take up a good chunk of the year.
Mars Rover Sample Return Mission 1988 NASA
more at scitech.quickfound.net "This video was created by NASA JSC's Missions Planning Division to depict a future unmanned Mars mission. Released Sep. 1988." Public domain film from NASA, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). creativecommons.org en.wikipedia.org A Mars sample return mission (MSR) would be a spaceflight mission to collect rock and dust samples from Mars and to return them to Earth. Sample return is very powerful type of exploration, because analysis is freed from the time, budget, and space constraints of spacecraft sensors. All of Earth's laboratories can potentially study a sample. According to Louis Friedman, Executive Director of The Planetary Society, Mars sample return is often described by the planetary science community as the "holy grail" of robotic space missions, due to its high expected scientific return-on-investment. Over time several missions were planned but none of the proposed missions got beyond the planning phase. The three latest proposals for a MSR mission are a NASA-ESA proposal, a Russian proposal, Mars-Grunt, and a Chinese proposal. MSR was highest priority in the Planetary Decadal Survey 2013-2022: The Future of Planetary Science... Scientific value The return ... | Views: 2 ![]() 0 ratings

NASA's MARS CURIOSITY ROVER REPORT JANUARY 10, 2013 YouTube
Further videos are available in favourites, play lists on my channels and complementary video responses. Mirrored: www.youtube.com A NASA's Mars Curiosity rover team member gives an update on developments and status of the planetary exploration mission. The Mars Science Laboratory spacecraft delivered Curiosity to its target area on Mars at 1:31:45 am EDT on Aug. 6, 2012 which includes the 13.8 minutes needed for confirmation of the touchdown to be radioed to Earth at the speed of light. The rover will conduct a nearly two-year prime mission to investigate whether the Gale Crater region of Mars ever offered conditions favorable for microbial life. Curiosity carries 10 science instruments with a total mass 15 times as large as the science payloads on NASA's Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity. Some of the tools, such as a laser-firing instrument for checking rocks' elemental composition from a distance, are the first of their kind on Mars. Curiosity will use a drill and scoop, which are located at the end of its robotic arm, to gather soil and powdered samples of rock interiors, then sieve and parcel out these samples into the rover's analytical laboratory instruments. | Views: 2 ![]() 0 ratings

Metal objects seen on Mars. Curiosity Rover, image anomalies.
The NASA Mars rover Curiosity used its Mast Camera (Mastcam) during the mission's 120th Martian day, or sol (Dec. 7, 2012), to record this view of a rock outcrop informally named "Shaler." In this image you can see several objects which appear to be made of metal or some other material, and seem to have been manufactured. They are not rocks. One object in particular has very distinct edges and has holes drilled into the side of it. It appears to be a metal box. There are many other objects in this image that do not appear to be natural. Nasa does not seem to be interested in investigating these objects any more closely. They claim to be looking for signs of life on Mars. Surely if there are objects which are made from metal and other materials on the martian surface which are obviously not just rocks, then this merits a closer look. Who or what made these objects? Why is Nasa not investigating them? The image can be seen on the Nasa website. www.nasa.gov www.nasa.gov | Views: 0 ![]() 0 ratings
